Client: “I will give you final update on 30th February🥲”

Which never comes.

You: “Hey, I’m going to try out different methods to make sure our client takes the decision on time. It’s a win-win situation — not only will it benefit our company, but it’ll also optimize our resources and lead to a successful project overall.”😎

Let’s find out some useful techniques to enable client to make fast decisions:

  1. Deadline Setting: Establish clear and reasonable deadlines for each decision and communicate them explicitly to the client. Use a sense of urgency in your communication to stress the importance of meeting these deadlines.

Do: — Make sure you are making the best use of project plan, sprint reports, project updates mails or meetings, weekly or monthly catchups.

2. Decision Workshops: Organize decision workshops where you bring key stakeholders together to address critical choices collectively. These workshops facilitate real-time discussions and decision-making.

Do: — This becomes crucial when client has delayed significant amount of time and we are nowhere near to conclusion. Make sure you keep the tone of the meeting collaborative and not defensive.

3. Limited-Time Offers: Create time-limited offers or discounts to incentivize clients to make decisions quickly. This tactic can encourage them to commit to a decision to take advantage of the offer.

Do: — Discount strategy does not really work with some clients. Rather you can use strategy of showing Resource scarcity and urgency to go forward. This might work.

4. Decision Dashboard: Create a decision dashboard that highlights pending choices, their impact on the project, and the potential risks associated with delays. Share this dashboard with the client regularly.

Do:- This technique really gives the clear picture to both the team and helps with the next action plan. Start utilizing it if you have not yet.

5. Breakdown of Costs: Clearly outline the cost implications of delayed decisions, including potential additional expenses and their impact on the overall project budget.

Do: — This technique might lead to more escalations at some point. Make sure you have well-thought the consequences and take actions accordingly. Basically, you should be knowing the next steps.

6. Decision Escalation Process: Establish a clear escalation process for unresolved decisions. This can involve raising the matter to higher-level stakeholders if decisions are pending beyond a certain timeframe.

Do: — This depends on the sensitivity of the project, timeline, cost, resources, client relations etc. Make sure you consider all the factors in and then take the next steps.

I have been trying some of the techniques — mentioned above. It works:) Let me know which technique worked for you.
